Thank You Is Always An Excellent Response

Thank You

December 20th, 2014.  Dear Secret Diary, as we head into the holiday season, it is always good to keep in mind that “thank you” is always a kind thing to say…

Somebody gives you a present Diary, saying “thank you” tends to make the giver feel appreciated.  Somebody makes you a nice meal, well same concept.  And consider the following.

This past week, I was watching the original Dumb & Dumber (which I kept mispelling* by spelling “Dumber” as “Dummer”) starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels.  Dumb & Dumber 2 was released about a month ago.  I have not seen the sequel, although I say with some modest amount of pride that I do like the original, or at least certain scenes.

Well, this past week, I watched the last half of the original movie.  In one scene, the Jeff Daniels character, Harry, is on a ski chair-lift with Mary, the heroine played by Loren Holly, and the following dialogue takes place.

Mary: It’s a beautiful day, huh Harry?

Harry: Yes, yes, I’ve had a wonderful time so far, thank you.

Mary: God, it feels so good to get up here.  I haven’t been outside much lately.

Harry: Oh yeah? Why not?

Mary: Uh, there’s been some family problems.  But I don’t want to bore you with those.

Harry: Thanks.

And again Diary, the power of showing some appreciation with a “thanks” or a “thank you!”

(* Yes, I misspelled “mispelling” intentionally)
