Have you ever heard the song “Right Place Wrong Time” by Doctor John? Ok- good.
So I received a call from my close friend Mike about attending a running race with him in the city of Buffalo. We are both avid runners, so I was thinking this was a 5k or something like that.
When he picked me up the next morning he non-chalantly mentioned, “Oh, hey, this is actually a scavenger hunt race”. Okay, I thought, that’s still good. Knowing that there’s usually some kind of prize at the end, we were both in our running shorts and sweat resistant shirts, ready to sprint through the city and finish this hunt in first place.
Looking around at our competitors, we figured this should be a piece of cake. In fact, most of the participants seemed to be couples. Actually, they were all couples…
Upon further investigation, we realized we had gotten ourselves into the “Reeds-Jenns Race for the Ring”- a scavenger hunt for a $10,000 wedding ring.
We stood out like a sore thumb, but decided we were still going to give this thing a go. We were there- might as well go for it.
We were sprinting all throughout the city, racking up points and having a ball. It only dawned on us at the last hint, what do we do if we win? Do we pretend we’re together, or am I a stand in for his girlfriend?
Luckily we were 2 points off from the win, but whenever Mike calls me about a race now- I make sure I do my research.
