When Kids Talk, Adults Should Listen

dinner

The other day my eight-year-old nephew and my brother passed by my apartment and decided to stay over for dinner.

As we were eating and despite me and my brother talking nonstop when my nephew tried to tell me something, I told him with a serious tone, “We don’t talk with a full mouth. Once you finish your meal you can tell me whatever you want.”

So once we finished dinner I asked my nephew right away what he wanted to tell me so bad. He looked at me with an awkward expression on his face and said, “Uncle, you know… I think I saw a mosquito swimming in your soup.”

I guess I should have let him talk when he wanted to.
