One morning a police car with flashing lights pulled me over near the secondary school where I used to be a part-time teacher. As the officer asked for my registration and license, my students began to drive past. Some stopped to admonish me for speeding, others honked their horns.
I was only 3 kph over the limit but over speeding is still over speeding. Finally the officer asked me if I was a teacher at the school, and I told him I was.
“Sir, I think you’ve already paid your debt to society,” he concluded with a smile, and left without giving me a ticket.
And here’s another one, driving my car one afternoon, I went through a stop sign. I was pulled over by a police officer, who recognized me as his former English teacher.
“Mr. Rossi, those stop signs are periods, not commas,” he said.
These officers are very kind and forgiving. I never had problems with road rules and regulations ever since.
