Nervousness May Result In Hugs

hugs
Growing up, I always remember my aunt having the coolest friends, the coolest house and the best stories with them. So, when I was finally old enough to get invited to actually hang out with them, I was beyond excited.

It was 2008 and she was having a Super-Bowl party at her house. I got there just as the game was starting and made my way through the house. I was pretty nervous since I didn’t know too many of them, so my aunt went around with me and introduced me to everybody.

Suddenly, I saw someone I actually knew! Not only did I know her, she had been my aunt’s best friend since before I was even born, so I had known her my whole life. I was ecstatic to see her. Naturally, I made a straight b-line to her and wrapped my arms around her without saying a word.

I gushed about how nice it was to see her after so many years and hugged her as tight as I could. I was surprised that when I finally let go and stepped back, she looked a little scared. The room had gotten pretty quiet too.

My aunt, who was standing next to me, looked as if she couldn’t find her words. It turns out that the woman I was holding on to for dear life was not her very best friend at all. She was her little sister.

I quickly let go and apologized for my mistake, but they looked so much alike they could have been twins! Luckily, she said that was the happiest anyone has ever been to see her and thanked me for it, even if it was a case of mistaken identity.
