Comparing the Same Cheesecakes

cheesecakes

My nephew, Jimmy, opened a new restaurant in a mall, and on opening day I helped out in the kitchen. By mid-morning, I notice we hadn’t gotten our delivery of cheesecakes. Jimmy and I decided not to mention it to anyone else, hoping the cakes would arrive soon.

The shipment still hadn’t come when, just before noon, a slice of cheesecake was ordered. I suggested that I run to the bakery next door to get some, and Jimmy readily agreed. Going out our back door, I knocked on the back door of the bakery and bought a cheesecake directly from the baker’s helper. The single slice I cut in our kitchen would be the only one we served all day.

After closing, Jimmy and I sat discussing the hectic day’s events with my niece, who had been out front working the cash register. “An interesting thing happened just before noon,” she said. “The owner of the bakery next door came in and ordered a slice of our cheesecake. She wanted to compare it with hers.”
